Carmen Genest
Originally from St-Jean Chrysostome on the south shore of Quebec City Carmen Genest received private voice lessons from Alexandre Malenfant, continued her study of classical singing at Ste-Foy College with Danielle Demers, and started her baccalaureate in jazz interpretation at Laval University with Madeleine Thériault. She also received training in composition from Robert Léger (Beau Dommage), Libert Subirana (Harmonium) and career management training from Blanche Morin. Carmen has given many performances as a soloist for The Quebec Opera Foundation. "In addition to her talent Carmen Genest is animated with a great passion for her art, she works with determination, availability and flexibility on stage and in rehearsal." (The Quebec Opera Foundation). Her versatility has led her to sing with many great musicians and singers in styles ranging from opera to rock, jazz to pop. For the last 6 years she has been performing many times a week in the Quebec City region onstage and on the radio in commercials or on Radio-Canada. In the 90's she recorded jingles with Rémi Tremblay for the CHIK morning show 'La Jungle'. This young lady's busy career has led her to theatre where she performed in the rock opera 'U-Go', written by Pierre Houle and Patrick Bourgeois (ex B.B.). For this role she was selected from 197 candidates and received 10 months of acting classes. Initiator of the Aretha Franklin tribute show 'Du Jazz au Soul', Carmen produced this spectacle with 9 musicians and 2 dancers at the Capitole de Quebec and La Salle Albert Rousseau with numerous other representations throughout the province, including opening for Michel Pagliaro and Bob Walsh. In the last years, her two albums "Bleu" and “Swing Manouche” took her to Poland, Chile, Mexico and Canada with reputable guitarist David Jacques. Rave reviews from influent east-europeans and south americans have opened the door for a 2005-2006 tour of many European, Asian, African and South american countries with her new show 'Swing Manouche'. A tour of Quebec is being prepared for 2005-2006 of her latest album on the 'XXI-21' label. In next November she will also be performing in India and Nepali.
